With FreeSwitch 1.8.x it is now possible to specify the translation profile to be used within a sip profile - see https://freeswitch.org/jira/browse/FS-9874
The syntax is: <param name="dialplan" value="translate:my_profile1,XML"/>

As noted in the jira, mod_translate now processes the ANI of a call as well.
