Best way to script PHP

Fusion is coded in PHP, I was hopping to find freeswitch php-esl library available, but it's not. I did not manage to compile it from fs source, I'm reading about compatibility problems with php 7.4.3 (ubuntu current).

Is there a way to get PHP-ESL working in the current fusionpbx install?

Is there another way to script, e.g. an IVR in PHP as is?

I managed to compile ESL, but testing with provided scripts shows this error:

root@pbx:/usr/src/freeswitch/libs/esl/php# ./single_command.php status
Command to run is: status
/usr/bin/php: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/php/20190902/ESL.so: undefined symbol: _ZN13ESLconnectionC1EPKcS1_S1_

Only reference I could find online is from 2014:
