Hi,

Conference system users are using the L16:8000 codec. Is this standard in FS?

Call to FS --> G729 or PCM A/U --> L16 ? ( L16:8000 / G729:8000 )

Exactly what codec does L16 represent here?

Thanks,

L16:8000 is Linear Pulse Code Modulation (LPCM) at 8000 bit sampling and is considered "uncompressed" compared to G729 or PCMA/U
The L16 is needed to easily MUX the multiple audio streams present in a conference.

The sample rate of 8000 can be changed to match the quality of expected caller codecs. 8000 is the "default" conference profile in Fusionpbx, but there are "Conference Profiles" for 'wideband' at 16000, 'ultrawideband' at 32000 and 'cdquality' at 48000

Yes, there are different rate definition fields in the profile. Does running LPCM on the system add additional overhead or can we run PCM codec instead?

There is no way to change it.
If the conference includes "outside" callers, the most efficient setting is 8000. If the conference is all internal extensions using wideband codecs, then you would want to increase the rate.
