This is something that I need to do further testing on but would like to hear other peoples' opinions on.

It definitely seems that when call recording is enabled, the actual call quality is reduced.

I actually use VMWare and I think this may be the cause. ie, the timing problems that many warned about are surfacing.

I'm willing to stand up a bare metal box at home and do some testing if you can give me the exact setup you're using so I can replicate your setup.

Kismet,

Thanks for the offer, I'm gonna spin one up myself though, I need to address it, I have spare metal in the datacenter.

For what it's worth, we have a client that records all their calls and call quality doesn't seem to be an issue. Running on a VPS.

Interesting, bigfishvoice, do you know what type of virtualisation they use?

I have a couple clients that record all calls and don't have any issues with call quality. They are all on bare metal boxes though recording into MP3 with mod_shout.

You don't do it by hijacking other peoples threads so I won't even be attempting to answer.
