VM to email still broken after all these years - why?

I've seen posts from developers on here and just hoping against all odds that they see this and reply.

Why does VM to email still not work unless I edit the config to remove the caching? Apparently its been flagged so many times but there's never a fix. I'm scared to update my FusionPBX install in case an update breaks it again.

I can confirm I have no issues on 5.5 and 5.6 in regards to VM to email. Maybe post fusionpbx/freeswitch version, OS, etc... to get some more feedback. What does email_logs.php show?
