I set rtp-start-port and rtp-end-port in my autoload_configs/switch.conf.xml and configured my firewall and router appropriately. Everything was fine on this config for a few weeks, but these past few days most calls had no audio. A packet trace showed that RTP ports were commonly outside of the range configured.

I tried reloading the config and restarting the external profile. I poked around fs_cli to confirm the ranges made it into freeswitch's running config, but I wasn't able to find that information anywhere.

Finally as a last ditch, I restarted the freeswitch daemon entirely. After that everything has worked as expected.

Has anyone seen this? Any thoughts on a cause?

Never, ever seen that, had you definitely restarted freeswitch when you initially changed this? This would require a restart.

Pretty sure. The system handled a few dozen calls during that time. It's possible those calls just won the port number lottery.
